It’s been a difficult (understatement) few weeks

Today I was tired. 😴⁣

My social media feeds are full of disturbing images, but also full of the most incredible giving and sharing and help. 💛 It’s all very overwhelming. ⁣

Maybe I just needed a day of nothingness and hanging with my beautiful daughters. 👩‍👧‍👧 ⁣
My eldest, Bel, heads back to Europe next week and my heart is starting to feel torn in two. 💔⁣
⁣
So it’s red 🍷 tonight and a bunch of Native florals with ‘The Girl in the Dress’ to lighten the load. ⁣

I’ve been having a devilishly good time in my st

I’ve been having a devilishly good time in my studio over the last few days...playing with watercolor pencils and gouache paint. ⁣
⁣
So much fun. 🤗⁣
⁣
What I learnt...⁣
⁣
🌟 Leave time to experiment with new materials. ⁣
🌟 Even when you have no idea what you are doing, keep pushing through the doubt until you feel more comfortable. ⁣
🌟 Stay multi skilled. Even though oils are my passion, I totally love spending time with other materials and had forgotten how enjoyable watercolor can be and had not really used watercolor pencils before. Pure joy. ⁣
🌟 Break the rules or make up your own if you don’t know what the rules are! I bought pastel paper...and didn’t even use pastels on it! 💁🏻‍♀️⁣
🌟 Paint whatever you want...a Tasmanian Devil was what I wanted this week! ⁣

After an amazing two days of bidding on my ‘Aloha Koala’, with a heated bidding frenzy in the last few hours, I am thrilled to say it went from an opening bid of $80 to $1250 and is flying off to live in London! ⁣

Same as last years...better my craft. Stay motivated. Paint what I love. Be open to new ideas and experiment. ⁣

I try not to look back too often, but at this time of the year, every year, I do.⁣

Oh my Goodness. It’s no wonder I have spent the last few weeks feeling utterly spent and unable to lift a paintbrush. ⁣

I finished Roughly 66 paintings this year, of various sizes and prices. ⁣

Artist tip number 364...if something annoys you about a painting, one of the first things to reassess is composition. ⁣
⁣
Composition is KING 🤴 and can absolutely make or break even the best painting.⁣
⁣
Learn as much about composition as you can. Make it your first priority when you sketch out art ideas and play with it until it’s right. ⁣
⁣
I’ve seen beautifully rendered paintings sit unsold for years because the composition just isn’t right. Believe me, it matters. 🤓🤓

Without art, my head hurts, my heart is heavy and my family are walking on eggshells around me in fear of their lives. ⁣
😋😜😆 Well...not quite...but nearly... hmmm... Maybe?⁣

Between the exhibition, Santa’s imminent arrival and my family needing me 🥰, my studio has grown cobwebs. 🕷🕸 and my paintbrushes are twitching.🧹 ⁣

Sometimes it’s so darn hard to find the time to paint 🎨, especially as we are about to begin a BIG house renovation, involving knocking out walls and moving rooms...🛁🛁🧖🏻‍♀️⁣

BUT I’m planning to still paint. ⁣
It’s my sanity! 👩🏻‍🎨🤪⁣

How do you carve out time to be creative? ⁣

I keep a basket of drawing materials, pencils and paper under our coffee table, ready to play when I’ve reached the end of my people time pleasure. 😜⁣. Is this just me??

I’ve painted Pomegranates numerous times now and can’t say I’ll ever get bored of painting this magical fruit. ⁣

And with gum blossom a plenty in this wide brown land of ours 🇦🇺, I’ve always got a selection of gum blossom to pilfer (😋) on my walks with the poocher. 🐶🐾⁣
